Permit To Recycle Skip Waste
A permit to recycle skip waste allows you to import mixed waste to your site. From there you can manually sort it or treat it mechanically. There are no waste exemptions that allow you to import mixed waste and you will need to apply to the Environment Agency for an Environmental Permit.
You must be aware of the European Waste Codes (EWC’s). Many standard rules permits have enough codes for most businesses. However if you want more codes or a larger tonnage than normal then you need a bespoke permit.
The location of your site is very important to how easy it is to obtain the correct permit. A site in an area sensitive to noise or dust may cause you more headaches than one located out of town with no nearby neighbours. Sorting will need to be conducted within a building. This also helps to cut dow on the noise and dust pollution. Consider this when you choose your site. Other factors you will need to consider are the size of the site (does your business have room to grow) and whether you are close to water supplies and other amenities for fighting fires and energy supply etc.

Our Services & Experience
Paul Downing & Associates has helped many skip hire businesses get off the ground. We can advise on site location and the liklehood of a successful permit application to the Environment Agency.
We have produced many dust management plans, fire prevention plans, odour management plans, noise management plans, pest control management plans. Also, the full range of other supporting surveys required by the EA. It is highly likely that any issues you encounter during your application, we have come across before.
If you are going round in circles on the EA website and associated guidance provided, then we can help steer you through the maze of red-tape.
It will take up to 8 months for a standard rules permit to be determined. Up to a year or more for a bespoke permit. You will need to spend time responding to comments from others who may have a say on your application. Of course the fees for the latter are much higher as well.
Paul is very knowledgeable in the Environmental field, and was a great asset in the time he was employed to work at the Alton Brewery.
