Fire Prevention Plan Guidance

Paul Downing

Updated Environment Agency guidance is available on how to produce a fire prevention plan. These support  environmental permit applications. It is expected end of July 2016. The new guidance is expected therefore to be slightly more flexible than the current guidance.  This is dated March 2015. The new guidance allows for alternative methods of fire prevention to be proposed.  As an alternative to those stipulated in the current guidance.

FPP’s have been causing a lot of waste management companies issues with compliance and the withdraw or refusal of environmental permit applications. We are hoping that the new guidance and the EA start to take business concerns and financial imperatives into account.  The current status therefore does not help to promote genuine waste businesses in the UK. If you need help with a Fire Prevention Plan for your waste permit application.

We have helped many organisations apply for, vary, surrender and transfer their permits. The process however, can be overwhelming if you have never bee in involved in permitting or waste planning before.

Update January 2021

The FPP guidance has been updated further to incorporate additional requirements for waste businesses. For instance, This include distances to hydrants, persistent organic pollutants. In conclusion new guidance on separation distances amongst other changes is more flexible . Call us for more information.
