Depollution Permit (ELV)

Paul Downing

Depollution Permit For End Of Life Vehicles. This is also know by several other names such as.

  • An ATF licence
  • Car breakers licence
  • CAT B licence
  • Waste Management Licence
  • Environmental permit

We have successfully applied for and therefore obtained many ELV waste permits from the Environment Agency. These permits are for the de-pollution of end of life vehicles. Waste operators therefore wishing to become an authorised treatment facility (ATF) will need to obtain such a depollution permit. The process is quite a long one and you need to consider many factors when looking for an appropriate site.

As the licence is tied to a piece of land, you may not be able to apply in all site locations. This is due to local environmental receptors such as protected woodlands, rivers, nature reserves or air quality areas. The Environment Agency puits exclusion zones around these areas to protect them.

You will need to allow several mnths for the Environment Agency to determine your permit once you have applied. They will ask questions about drainage, fire prevention and how much waste you want to store on site.

Be prepared for a long haul and remember, until you have been issued a permit you are operating illegally.
